Tough Week

Not a lot of drawing last week what with funerals and all..

but restarted tonight and got a tad done on the dragster, (plus wrapped the chevron and Vulcan).
Nice email from the Vulcan buyer, it seems this one touches people. The buyer was at Rongotai on the day so wants the pic as a memento. Nice story and makes the sale very personal.

Warwick sold 2 Railcars last week! I think the NZ nostalgia for trains angle works too!!!

maybe he needs one of the wellington commuter trains before they disappear?

and ps: the All whites drew with Italy!!!!!!!!!  unheard of....

Day off

Unfortunately or possibly for the best Antheas father passed on yesterday so not much to say really.
Still we move on and after this is over I'll no doubt be back into the drawing again.

Have to empty the studio this morning to get it ready for son who's coming home for his grandfathers funeral.

Such is life!!!

Nice Pic

found this old pic of a racing motor boat of 1912!!
Powered by 2 Austin engines of 380hp each. It won the British International Trophy at Calshot.

Just a superb shot.. Might be worth a painting one day eh?

On sombre note, Antheas dad is now in palliative care so pretty well all hope gone. Just have to accept I guess.

cheered up a bit

the father-in-law is slightly better today so maybe he'll pull thru. They finally diagnosed the infection as a fungal infection so can at least try and treat it...

anyway, spent the day cleaning and tidying... Warwick dropped round with his Railcar for me to get scanned and printed and then Richard dropped round for a bout of scanning of many MANY Chevettes, Corvettes and Vauxhalls (its his 'thing'). I scored a nice pic of Beecheys original Monaro tho that I can draw.

Sold a Dawson Mustang out of the blue too so thats cheering and Richard wants a Rosberg Chevron.

Decided to put some prints on Ebay too. The robbers charge 75c per listing so I did two. the Vulcan and the Chevron, thought they might appeal to the world market. Will tell more about this foray if I get a bite.

Will do some more Dragster tonight!!!

Shit of a day

In the midst of life there is death!

Took the day off to be available to taxi mother-in-law and wife to hospital. to check out Father-in-law.
He has a blood infection contracted after a major operation to remove his bladder that means he is slowly slipping away. Went in at 10am and the doctor gave us the prognosis and shortly afterwards he was moved to ICU. We came home and went back at 4:30pm. Not much change. The infection is really killing him. Could be a couple of days, could be a week. However, IF they find an antibiotic that works and he has the fortitude to recover he may get better for a short time. We just dont know, so we come home and carry on regardless waiting to see what happens... His son is flying down tomorrow and I guess Ill be ferrying him to hospital asap.
Its a horrible wasting kind of death... I hate to see a mind that 2 weeks ago was perfectly capable and intelligent moving into delerium....

Oh well.... enough said, hope further blogs are brighter...

Ive sent off a McRae GM3 print today, that was unexpected and done a half hour on the dragster...

Maybe Ill get up and see the world cup kick off to take my mind off things...

a packing we will go...

Five tubes packed up last evening!!! Thats the down side of selling... Ive run out of packing tape again.
Still, on the up side, Ive sold my first Chevron, just waiting for the auction to conclude.

and the dragster is progressing..

also traced the Morgan for Jack as apparently the window method is too hard!!!!!  heh.
The original looks like this. Very well chosen action shot I think.

AND Warwick sold the Railcar, well deserved sale as thats an awesome image.

Vulcans

Make that 4 vulcans, it appears that 3 are required as gifts for 2 ex RAF pilots and a radar operator from vulcans. Very cool and I feel quite honored.

Quiet week saleswise...

but picked up over the weekend..

5 sales including 2 Vulcans... Im so happy to see that selling as I loved painting it..

bit disappointed in the interest in the Rosberg Chevron as i consider it one of my best. But hey ho its an open wheeler and they just arnt as popular Ive found...

Maree Wilson and her Dragster

Warwick and I have been asked to do a commission of two drag cars for a couple down south.
Ive just started mine this morning... As usual with a wheel.....

Lovely Queen's birthday weekend. Pissing with rain so Im holed up in the studio drawing and listening to that wonderful Matinee Idle show... will they play dead puppies again?

Fantastic Chevron

Finally finished!

quite pleased with it really... especially the counter intuitive road surface that shows Keke is drifting the cararound a right hander on full opposite lock. The problem now is to identify the year and the car!! I believe it is the B.34 he used in 1977 but I may have to get an experts advice on this..

anyway good to be done and on to the Dragster commish!

TGIFriday

Just received the following email:

This is a quick note from FlickrHQ to let you know that SPAUDO2007 has added your photo to their gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spaudo/galleries/72157622842723774. SPAUDO2007 says: "Excelente captura en vuelo a manos de WJANZ". I rather like it, too. More can be found here.

The Chevron nears completion

Spent a good hour and a half drawing tonight and cracked 98% of Keke Rosbergs Chrevron.

Now to decide how to portray the background.. its sorta counter intuitive to the way you interpret the car is going because he's drifting it, as was Keke's style.

anyway.. here tis...

The father-in-law is recovering well, so much so that theyre sending him home tomorrow. Either that or they need the bed!!!

Gravity is a myth - the earth sucks

I gave up commuting into Wellington 15 years ago - New Zealand drivers are amongst the worst in the world - impatient & ignorant. If you travel behind some-one at the recommended braking distance then some 'wuzzock' ('dipstick' in my language) will fill it. Question: How do Kiwi drivers brake? Answer: by changing lanes. Unfortunately the prang on the motorway involved one of my staff who was pitched off his motorbike by some pillock in a van.

I have posted the finished RM30 Railcar on TradeMe. I'm pleased with the image - let's hope some-one else likes it as well. All offers gratefully accepted...

And by way of a background, a total of six NZR RM class Standard Railcars were built in the NZR Hutt Workshops in 1938 and 1939, each with a semi-streamlined design featuring slanting ends. Driving controls were located at each end of the railcar so that they did not have to be turned. RM30 'Aotea' holds the record for the covering the NIMT (Auckland to Wellington), attained in 1967, in a time of 9 hours and 26 minutes (running time 8 hours and 42 minutes). 'Aotea' was withdrawn in 1972 and is preserved in working condition on the Silver Stream Railway, Hutt Valley, NZ.

Commuting

it sucks!!!

Ive had to use the car all week to taxi wifey and her mother home from the hospital at lunchtime.
Traffic just sucks in wellington. especially when it rains and some wuzzock prangs it on the motorway at 4pm!

Have spent a couple of nights training an Aces High pilot so done very little drawing but managed half an hour last night and intend an hour tonight.

The Corsair looks great on the top of the PC case. Had to bluetack the wheels to ensure it didnt slip off its so damn big!!!

Hows the dragster Warwick? I havnt seen the Railcar or Phantom on Trademe as yet?
