Ive started the painting and after a bit of roughing in some colour and the palm leaves I concentrated and did the fisherman at the back... quite pleased actually!

I do like to be beside the Seaside

Hacked together the collage of pics for the Pacific Island commission.
Will apparently be used for an autobiography. Will be an A3 size acrylic painting. Ill start this during this coming week.

Wings over Wairarapa II

So for me the Masterton airshow was a great day out. Drove over with Warwick and spent most of the time drooling over the planes and snapping piccys. Met some modelling mates of mine as well. Disappointing there were no model shops but the weather was brilliant. Apparently waaay better than the Wellington side of the Rimutakas.

Here's a few photos I took..

First Warwick hunting the not so elusive Avro Anson.

A wide angle shot of the crowd, a vampire and warwick ..

The Grumman Avenger

and a De Havilland Venom whizzing past

Lockheed C130-H 'Hercules'

The 'Hercules' has been the workhorse of the RNZAF for 50 years. I've been asked to draw 7002 in its original white livery. Therefore, the drawing will require a background so I've decided on an aerial view of '02' over Wellington.

I've had to unpack all my drawing equipment and sort out all my pencils - seperate the wax from the watercolours, the colours from the grays & blues (ie, my locomotive colours). Should be an interesting exercise colouring the Miramar Peninsular from the air...

Wings over Wairarapa

This from Warwick..
"I caught up with Brett yesterday and we spent a very hot day at Hood aerodrome, Masterton for Wings Over Wairarapa 2015. Really enjoyed Keith Skilling flying the Goodyear FG-4U Corsair. Such a beautiful aeroplane that I've decided to work out another drawing of it - after I've finished NZR RM123 Blue Streak, the RNZAF C130H Hercules and the Datsun 240Z that I've started. Oh, and a few portraits that I've sketched up too.
In the interim, here's a couple of photos from yesterday - a couple of Brett photographing various aircraft and one of a vampire that I was lucky enough to capture."

Back to work 2015

Mustangs all completed. Plaster cast off (turns out it was a torn calf not an achilles) and nearly walking normally, and back to work. I could get used to not working and just chilling at home... but boy do the days whoosh by!

off to the Wings over Wairarapa airshow tomorrow at masterton. with Warwick! Be a chance to catch up on his year and see if I can squeeze a few more trains out of him!!
Oh year and started two more commissions.. an A2 size acrylic painting of a yacht and an A3 size painting of a Tropical Island scene (go figure!). Pictures to come as soon as I start them.

also had a request for my Senna mercedes without Senna! as a photoshopped print. Well, why not? Might lead on to another commission so its all good.

and a request for my Graeme Lawrence lola T332 from Graeme's son but for Graeme!! Cool.. Have taken the cheeky opportunity to ask him to sign the original and he's agreed. Brilliant! I always liked watching him race and love the idea of him having my print on the wall.. Cool.

This is that print.. it looks blurred because a) the reference photo was too and b) it gives an impression of sheer speed!

The Trees, the trees...

so I decided to pencil in the background and save all the painting hassles (paper shrinkage etc)

Ive done some of the distant grass and the trees on either side..the middle trees are in progress! so far Im quite pleased. the dark background gives more of a 3D effect and pops the mustang roofs out more i think.

Mustangs awaiting a background..

Bit nervous over background... might have to use paint I think... aargh..
how can I stop the wavies?  But I just love these two cars...

New Years day evening

Lots of progress... This pic HAS to be a painting one day but Im very happy so far with the pencils.
The background will be mainly pencil too. Its needed to highlight the cars and give a more 3D effect.

New years day 2014

Love the differentiation in colours of these two mustangs. They are so different and yet so similar.
That corner is only big enough for one of them!

Who wants to pre-order the first print?
